Our story

With a long history in market and customer research we started Intelligent Purpose to create an agency we can be proud of, with integrity and empathy at the centre of what we do. We aim to be trusted advisors to organisations that share our values, want to provide genuinely great experiences for their customers and understand the importance of customer research intelligence in growing the value of their business.

Our Managing Director, Damian Miller has spent over 16 years working in market research, the last 8 of which were focussed on customer research, including customer experience management, voice of the customer, journey mapping, customer loyalty and understanding the lifetime value of customers.

He has collaborated with some well-known brands, helping and supporting their customer growth, including Coca-Cola, Kraft, Waitrose, Caffe Nero, Pizza Hut, Wickes, John Lewis, M&S as well as numerous high street and online companies. He created Intelligent Purpose to go beyond just measuring experiences to understanding the deeper customer connection to brands and helping organisations to develop their customer roadmap  and improve their emotional connection with their customers and deliver truly great experiences.

With over 16 years’ worth of market research experience, I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing brands, both big and small, advising them on their business challenges.

 

The last 8 years has been spent working in customer research, including customer experience management, voice of the customer, journey mapping, customer loyalty and understanding the lifetime value of customers.

 

I have collaborated with some well-known brands, helping and supporting their customer growth, including Waitrose, Caffe Nero, Pizza Hut, Wickes, John Lewis, M&S as well as numerous high street and online companies. I am passionate about improving experiences and connecting business purpose with customer purpose.

 

At Intelligent Purpose, I wanted to create an agency that goes beyond managing customer experiences to finding the human connection between customers and organisations. Using knowledge of that connection, I believe we can add true value to customers' lives as well as a business' bottom line.

I have worked as a strategic consultant for over a decade supporting business owners and boards to use insight.

I help clients drive their business forward with customer intelligence: shaping brand alignment, undepinning successful marketing, delivering memorable customer experiences, and innovating with confidence.

During my career I've had the opportunity to put into practice a diverse range of research methods from robust quantitative surveying  to rich ethnographic observation. 

 

I’m a keen runner and can be found at some point on most days travelling the roads, rivers, parks and canals of South Manchester. The rest of my time is spent cooking, exploring, playing or adventuring with my wife and three young children.

Twenty years ago I was running a communications agency and we recognised that compelling evidence was essential to underpinning our campaigns. We worked with a range of research agencies to deliver this evidence, one of which I ended up becoming managing director of. From there I went on to co-found another agency and that’s where I had the privilege of working with my fellow directors Ben and Damian.

 

I’ve worked across all aspects of the research process and specialise in honing and aligning the research with business objectives and synthesising the findings into the core story and recommendations.

 

I am a late convert to the joys of road cycling, a poor bread maker, a keen cook and love nothing more than putting the world to rights with my wife and friends over a glass of wine.
